Issue Forums

Throughout the 2007-2009 biennium, local Leagues around the state will host community forums on all aspects of money in politics, including campaign financing, government ethics, competitive elections, an independent judiciary, media and citizen participation and more. Local Studies:
While local Leagues contribute to state studies with input, research and activities in their own communities, they also conduct their own studies on the issues closest to home. Here's what a few Leagues are working on in 2007-2008:

  • LWV Appleton Continuing study of mental health
  • LWV Ashland/Bayfield Counties Sustainable recycling practices and biomass energy
  • LWV Beloit Education of English Language Learners
  • LWV Greater Green Bay Local immigration and illegal aliens
  • LWV Janesville Rock County criminal justice system
  • LWV La Crosse Area Continuing study of dental health care
  • LWV Manitowoc County Feasibility of the Manitowoc County Court drug treatment program
  • LWV Milwaukee County Predatory lending (extension of a study on convenient lending)
  • LWV Oshkosh Area Sustainable community; parks and recreation; community revitalization; Winnebago County Jail telephone fees
  • LWV Ripon Area Local sustainability
  • LWV Wisconsin Rapids Area Social, economic and environmental impact of a coal fired power plant on the community

League studies expand our knowledge of the complex issues in today's world and inform both our positions and our legislative activity.
