Wisconsin League Update - Jan. 28, 2010

Today the state Senate acted on a number of bills, including:

SB 263, which changes the criteria for people to be found indigent for the purpose of public defender representation. Passed 21-12. Now it goes to the Assembly.

SB 362, the "mental health parity" bill, supported by League of Women Voters of Wisconsin. Passed 20-13. Goes to the Assembly.

AB 458, the "Health Youth Act" which sets guidelines to ensure that sexuality education programs in public schools are comprehensive, age appropriate and medically accurate, supported by the League. Concurred with Assembly 18-15. Goes to the Governor.

Also today Senator Judy Robson, D-Beloit, announced that she will not seek re-election. We are very proud of Judy, a League member who has served in the state Legislature since 1987, and we wish her well.
